Patek Philippe’s World Time wristwatches are among its most iconic collections. The origins of this remarkable complication trace back to 1930-1931 when watchmaker Louis Cottier designed a movement that revolutionized timekeeping. His innovation featured a central local-time display with hour and minute hands, linked to a rotating 24-hour ring and bordered by a fixed outer dial inscribed with the names of different cities. By aligning the chosen city (representing the local time zone) at the 12 o’clock position, the wearer could instantly read the correct time across all 24 time zones—displayed in hours and minutes, day and night—while maintaining a clear and intuitive local-time reading, all on a single dial.
Patek Philippe was one of the first brands to adopt this groundbreaking complication in the early 1930s. Continuing this legacy, the Reference 5130 was introduced in 2006 as the successor to the Reference 5110, which debuted in 2000. With a 39.5mm Calatrava-style case—2.5mm larger than its predecessor—the Reference 5130 offers enhanced legibility and an expanded exterior rotating disc displaying all 24 time zones, improving both functionality and aesthetics. Designed to provide a seamless global timekeeping experience, this watch remains an essential companion for travelers and collectors alike.
The Reference 5130 captivates with its elegant design and exceptional craftsmanship. Additionally, the rare white gold bracelet not only adds to its luxurious appeal but also provides a satisfying heft, making this timepiece as refined as it is practical.
