When launched in 2013, the Ref 116710BLNR became the first Rolex GMT model to feature a black and blue bezel constructed from Cerachrom: a virtually scratchproof material. Dubbed the “Batman" by collectors due to this striking color combination, it soon became one of the most desired modern sports watches made by any brand. The Ref 116710 was only in production for a relatively short six year period, and was subsequently replaced by a new model, the Ref 126710BLNR, which was introduced in 2019. The firm differentiated the two models with the introduction of the with Jubilee bracelet and a new caliber, the Cal 3285. In the long term, models with such short production periods tend to become more interesting and collectable.
