Description

finely painted by P. J. Ihle, with vignettes of amorous couples in landscapes and scattered loose flower sprigs, with dark-puce and gilt scroll borders at the rims, the teapot with animal mask spout, the covers with fruit-form finials, comprising:

a teapot and cover,

a three-footed milk jug and cover,

a sugar bowl and cover,

and six cups and saucers,

interlaced CC and crowned interlaced CC monogram marks in underglaze-blue, painter’s mark in green for Philipp Jacob Ihle to inside footrim of all pieces except saucers, various incised and impressed marks

Height of milk jug and cover 16 cm; 6 ⅜ in

Philipp Jacob Ihle, identified by his painter’s mark, was active at the Ludwigsburg manufactory from 1763 until about 1781, specialising in Watteau and battle scenes.
