Movement: gilt, full plate, verge escapement, pierced and engraved balance bridge
Case: gold with pearl-set bezels, polychrome enamel scene to the back depicting classical female figure seated by a stream with a male figure behind
Dimensions: 54mm diameter
Accessories: associated gold and enamel chatelaine
This open faced watch was made by the well-known French clock and watch maker, Robert Robin (1741-1799), who included Marie-Antoinette within his clientele. Richly decorated pocket watches and chatelaines were typical for that time.
One of Robin's other notable achievements was creating a watch escapement that bears his name.
