Folio (21 3/8 x 14 3/4 in.; 540 x 362 mm). Dedication leaf, 46 engraved plates on 45 sheets, all but 2 of which hand-colored; minor foxing, minor offsetting. Later binding, half brown calf over marbled boards. 


First edition. The first work on the subject of Indian snakes. Patrick Russell (1727-1805) was a naturalist with the East India Company. He published a continuation to the work in 1809.
