HAAS, JOHANN MATTIAS
Regni Davidici et Salomonæi Descriptio Geographica et Historica. Nuremberg: Officina Hommaniana, 1739
Two parts in one volume, folio (14 1/8 x 8 3/8 in.; 359 x 213 mm). Title printed in red and black, historiated initials, woodcut head- and tailpieces, 6 folding or double-page engraved maps, 14 plates (6 town plans, 7 of monuments, and 1 plain table), hand-colored; some foxing, one or two closed marginal tears. Full brown mottled calf, covers with gilt border, spine with raised bands in seven compartments, second of which gilt-lettered, others with repeat overall filigree motif in gilt, edges speckled red, marbled endpapers; overall rubbed, corners bumped, joints weak.
First edition. J.M. Hase, geographer and cartographer, compiled numerous maps and geographical texts for the Homann firm. The second part of the present work, an historical geography of the kingdoms of David and Solomon, is a comparison and consideration of the greatest cities of the known world.
