Although ‘Girl On A Motorcycle’ received lukewarm reviews upon it’s release it nevertheless became the 6th highest grossing film in the UK released in 1968, now considered a cult classic. Poster designs for the film differed internationally, but all featured Marianne in the now trademark black leather body suit, which has entered popular culture as a key image of 60s style. The original costume designed by Lanvin and other outfits in the film have had an enduring influence on fashion.

Marianne remembers director Jack Cardiff's belief in her talent as an actress, as well as the iconic black body suit:

"‘Girl On A Motorcycle’ was very successful, but it’s a bit silly really. The Director Jack Cardiff really believed in me and thought I could be a star, bless him! He was a great cinemaphotographer so the film looks good at least and I’m pleased I made a colour film that preserved me in aspic at that age. The black leather body suit was designed for me by Lanvin, and now a lot of the younger fashion designers have been inspired by it. I certainly used to get a lot of letters from young boys about the ecstatic solitary pleasure I’d given them!"
