A silver beaker, Sazikov, Moscow, 1873
In traditional style, engraved with scrollwork, birds and animals, with a Russian inscription ‘A true copy of a beaker from the Moscow Armoury’, on three seated lion feet, struck to base with maker's mark, 84 standard
height 17.5cm, 6 7/8 in.
The original 17th-century beaker by Grigory Novgorodets, commissioned for the Patriarch Pitirim of Moscow, that inspired the present beaker was made 200 years earlier, in 1673.
