Cesare Lapini specialized in allegorical and genre subjects and models all'antica, which he sold with great success from his Florentine workshop to an elite global clientele. Typical of Lapini's oeuvre, the current bust depicts a romantic interpretation of Cleopatra, the Queen of Egypt. She is shown here wearing an Orientalizing headdress and garment as she demurely looks down, a depiction typical of 19th century taste.
