A number of similar hanging lanterns can be found in situ across the Forbidden City and in the collection of the Palace Museum, Beijing. Compare, for example, a gilt-lacquer lantern with etched glass panels and floral openwork, illustrated in Zhao Yingying, ‘Deng yao zhu ying man jincheng / The Palace Lamps and Their Origin in the Qing Dynasty’, Forbidden City, 2022 (8), p. 35; A related pair of smaller gilded lanterns of bulbous form can be found in the bed chamber behind the ‘Hall of Mental Cultivation’ (Yangxindian) in Beijing, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum.
