"With Eliane's designs, one sees the future of jewelry through the beauty of its past."
As an artist and art historian, Eliane Fattal combines her keen eye and passion for the aesthetic to resurrect and skillfully reconstruct antique pieces from the extraordinary collection of estate jewels at S.J. Phillips, a destination known to the world's most discerning collectors. Archival treasures are reimagined as contemporary, wearable and often transformable pieces, with much of the inspiration taken from nature, using the fine skills of the on-site craftsmen.
The fern flower is a magic flower in Slavic mythology. According to the myth, the flower blooms for a very short time on the eve of the summer solstice bringing fortune and happiness to the person who finds it. "Pteridomania" is the term used for the Victorian era craze of fern collecting and fern motifs in decorative art including pottery, glass, metals, textiles, wood, printed paper and sculpture, appearing on everything from christening presents to gravestones and memorials. Symbolic of sincerity, confidence, shelter, wealth and happiness, fern plants are often given with this message in mind. This 19th century diamond spray in the form of an unfurled fern, is re-imagined as a pair of asymmetrical transformable earrings with two diamond flower buds.
