Paintings by Barcelona-born artist August Vilella are characterised by the otherworldly characters that dwell and roam in surreal landscapes. The artist's scrupulous painterly style imbues his compositions with the grandeur and sublimity that reminisces those found in works from Romanticism and by Old Masters. Dramatically illuminated within the often uninhabited space, Vilella's supernatural creatures are captured in a state of amazement, surprise, and contemplation. Their large limpid eyes provide windows through which viewers may reach their dormant subconsciousness, the unspoken emotions waiting to be invigorated by allegories, signs, and symbols.
Vilella was the winner for The Best Artist at the Tokyo International Art Fair (2016), the Best Innovative Art at The Global Art Awards of Dubai (UAE) (2017),. International Artist Grand Prize and the Chairman´s Award in the Art Revolution, Taipei (2018).
