O ne of the most influential artists of his generation, British artist Damien Hirst works in a diverse range of mediums, including sculpture, painting, drawing and installation, to investigate the complex relationship between art, life and death. The Turner Prize winner in 1995, Hirst has been honoured with more than 80 solo shows around the world, and has participated in over 260 group shows. His latest series, Cherry Blossoms, is currently on view at the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain, Paris (6 July 2021- 2 January 2022), a dazzling display of cherry blossoms in bloom, drawing upon elements of Impressionism, Pointillism and Action Painting.

Published by HENI Editions, Damien Hirst released a series of eight prints, The Virtues, each depicting cherry blossoms and titled after one of The Eight Virtues of Bushidō—Justice, Courage, Mercy, Politeness, Honesty, Honour, Loyalty and Control—as delineated by Japanese author and politician Nitobe Inazō in his seminal book, Bushidō: The Soul of Japan, which explained the traditions and code of ethics of the Samurai. Only available for purchase for six days, the release of The Virtues featuring dabbed cherry blossoms against various backgrounds of blue proved hugely popular with international collectors.
