T
he up-and-coming Japanese pop artist LY is known for her monochrome figures populating modern urban spaces and interiors. The artist’s chic pop style has, over the past few years, gained much exposure, with many of her pieces turned into public murals across countries, including Japan, France and the US. Previously featured in her solo show "I’m Luv" at Coffee Stand in the Painting in Tokyo in 2019, the current work is an archetype of LY’s artistic style, which recalls predecessors such as the street illustrator Yuka Chocomoo, and VERDY, graphic designer and member of the collective VK DESIGN WORKS. While the entire composition is in monochrome greyscale, many of her works, including the present piece, can include as many as 30 individually-mixed shades of grey meticulously layered to create an imaginative space where her recurring protagonist, Luv, roams freely.

Coffee Stand in the Painting舉辦的個展「I'm Luv」 中亮相,展現了藝術家的典型創作風格之餘,也讓人想起街頭插畫師玉置浩二和平面設計師兼VK DESIGN WORKS成員 VERDY 等前輩的作品。
