Emilio Pettoruti holds a unique position in the development of painting in Argentina and in Latin America...He was a key figure in establishing a perception of reality through images that carried with them the essential elements of international modernization in art. His work embraced many characteristics of the radical European movements, chiefly Futurism and Cubism. Bringing his own personal variations of these modes of vision back to South America, he played a quintessential role in transforming these styles to fit the aesthetic needs of his environment.
