Often held in appalling conditions, Prisoners Abroad makes a real and life-saving difference to British citizens detained overseas. For over 40 years we have provided humanitarian aid, advice and emotional support to people who need food and clean water as well as access to medical treatment. We also support those returning to the UK after years, sometimes decades abroad and who struggle with the consequences of imprisonment – poor physical and mental health. We support and guide their families and friends from the point of arrest to release and beyond. We are non-judgmental, responding to urgent need and protecting people’s basic human rights. Our cause resonated with Sir Antony Gormley who has made this most generous of gifts to help British people held in life-threatening conditions overseas to survive and thrive and lead a crime-free future.
