Neige de Mai is one of the most market-popular series among the artist's snowscape collection. In 1985, Chu Teh-Chun traveled to Geneva, Switzerland for an exhibition. On his return journey, while passing through the Alps by train, he encountered a blizzard. The breathtaking scene of the fierce snowstorm deeply moved him, evoking imagery from Tang poetry, which led to the creation of his highly regarded and market-acclaimed snowscape series.

In 1987, Chu Teh-Chun held a major retrospective exhibition at the Taipei Historical Museum, marking his official return to the Chinese-speaking community after thirty-two years in France since 1955. His career flourished both in Europe and Asia, successfully establishing his international reputation, and this piece was created in the same year.

《五月雪》為藝術家最受市場歡迎的系列之一雪景系列作品。1985年，朱德群赴瑞士日內瓦參展，回程途中乘火車經過阿爾卑斯山時遇上暴風雪，眼前此番雪虐風饕的絕景使其內心撼動不已，更聯想至唐詩的意象，至此誕生了朱德群最為關注及市場認可的雪景系列。

雪景系列僅創作於1985-1990之間，備受藏家歡迎。據可查拍賣記錄顯示，近五年以來拍賣市場上出現的雪景系列不超過十張。2021年朱德群雪景系列作品《盛世雪》創下拍賣記錄逾兩億港幣，至今未被打破。可見雪景系列於市場與藏家心中無可撼動之地位。
