David Teniers the Younger created satirical genre scenes featuring animals during two periods of his career: in the early 1630s and later in the 1660s. A drawing by Teniers of feline customers receiving haircuts and shaves from monkey barbers is today in the Musée Condé, Chantilly (fig. 1).
