Carlos Mérida’s painting is seen - is heard, I should say - through its musicality, its timbre, basic qualities of its significance. Its originality arises from pre-Columbian sources and the cultivated and popular sources of today - its origin being their origin, singing a language of its own, rich in modulations or in chords of smooth colors.
