Property of Sir Run Run Shaw (Lots 3025-3033)
This season, Sotheby’s Hong Kong is proud to present works from the Sir Run Run Shaw Collection, spanning fine Chinese paintings, Chinese works of art, as well as modern art. Five excellent works of modern art will be offered: Chen Yifei’s epoch-defining masterpiece Banquet, as well as pieces by Cheong Soo Pieng and Adrien Jean Le Mayeur de Merprés, masters who lived and worked in Southeast Asia. Sir Run Run Shaw’s film business began in Southeast Asia, and he later established film studios in Singapore and Hong Kong. His art collection also reflects this development of his career. The five modern art works offered for auction highlight Sir Run Run Shaw’s extraordinary taste and his historical weight as a titan of the film industry. This season’s offering could be considered one of the best single-owner collection series from Asia.
