Stephen Mould joined Sotheby’s in 1980 after graduating from Newcastle University with a First Class Honours degree in Fine Art.  He conducted his first wine auction in 1985 and became Head of Sotheby’s European Wine Department in 2001, overseeing daily operations and managing Sotheby’s wine auction business in London, and was promoted to Senior Director in 2003.  

Stephen has served as senior specialist responsible for inspecting and cataloguing major wine sales in Europe for over 30 years.  He is one of Sotheby’s principal wine auctioneers, conducting the inaugural U.S. wine action in 1994 and the first commercial auction in Hong Kong in 1998.

Stephen played an important role in many of Sotheby’s record-breaking auctions, including: The Massandra Collection, The Princely Collections of Thurn und Taxis, The Andrew Lloyd Webber Wine Collection, The Millennium Wine Cellar and The Adrian Bowden Cellar – Parts I & II.  He was one of the principal auctioneers of the “white glove” sale, The Classic Cellar from a Great American Collector II, the first Sotheby’s single-owner wine sale in Hong Kong.  His experience and knowledge of authenticating historic cellars is unrivalled.
