Lyle Dawson joined the American Art department in January 2012, after six and a half years as Director at Babcock Galleries, the oldest gallery in the nation dedicated exclusively to American Art.
She comes to Sotheby’s with over 19 years of in-depth knowledge and experience in American Art. Ms. Dawson previously served as Vice President, Specialist in the American Paintings department at Christie’s. Ms. Dawson also served as a McDermott Graduate Fellow of American Art at the Dallas Museum of Art, and in 1999, she created and directed the American Art department at Phillips de Pury & Company.
Ms. Dawson received a Master’s degree in Art History from the University of Virginia and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History from Middlebury College. She has authored and co-authored several magazine articles and exhibition monographs on the works of Alan Gussow, Carl Rungius, and works in the permanent collection at the Dallas Museum of Art.
