Katharine Thomas joined Sotheby’s Watch Department in 2005, transitioning quickly into the role of Specialist. In 2012, she was named Head of Department for New York Watches.
Primarily responsible for property relating to the New York auctions, she collaborates with our teams in Hong Kong, London and Geneva on their sales as well. She travels throughout the country to meet clients to appraise private collections and to provide advice on buying and selling at auction. In 2016, she worked as Acting Head of Hong Kong Watches.
While at Sotheby’s, Ms Thomas played an instrumental role in the record-breaking Single Owner Sale of Watches from the Collection of the Late Reginald H. Fullerton, Jr. and his Grandfather Henry Graves, Jr. Other career highlights include the sale of the FDR Cartier Victory Clock, which went on to set a world record price for a Cartier Timepiece at auction, achieving $1.6 million.
Her particular areas of focus are vintage Patek Philippe timepieces, and Art Deco Cartier desk timepieces. Ms Thomas is a graduate of Haverford College.
