Mr. Jonathan Wong joined Sotheby’s Hong Kong in 2007 as Specialist in the Contemporary Chinese Art Department (now the Contemporary Asian Art Department). He is responsible for appraisals, art research, client liaison and cataloguing artworks for sale. 

Mr. Wong has been involved in curating many successful auctions, including the sales of The Ullens Collection in April and October 2011. With a cumulative total of HK$559.65 million / US$71.75 million, The Ullens Collection is the Highest-Value Single-Owner Collection of Contemporary Chinese Art Ever Sold at auction, with world auction records set for numerous artists. Mr. Wong also played an instrumental role in the success of Sotheby’s Hong Kong 40th Anniversary Evening Sale, during which Zeng Fanzhi’s The Last Supper achieved HK$180.44 million / US$23.1 million, setting the World Auction Record for a Work of Contemporary Asian Art, as well as the World Auction Record for the Work of a Living Chinese Artist. During Sotheby’s Hong Kong 2014 Spring Sale, in which Mr. Wong was heavily involved, Zhang Xiaogang’s Bloodline: Big Family No. 3 established the World Auction Record for the Artist (HK$94.2 million / US$12.1 million). 

Mr. Wong’s continued efforts in showcasing new trends in art collecting have led him to introduce various specially-curated sections which have been successfully received by the market, including the “Contemporary Hong Kong Art” section from Sotheby’s Hong Kong 2009 Spring Sale. Prior to joining Sotheby’s, Mr. Wong was an Art Editor at a Hong Kong newspaper. Mr. Wong continues to contribute art columns and has provided arts commentary in various media outlets.
