Sotheby's Summer Exhibitions London 2012

During the London Olympic celebrations this summer, Sotheby’s galleries in New Bond Street will be filled with a sequence of exhibitions of photography,  jewellery and timepieces, from 10 July until 11 August, the day before the closing ceremony of the Games.

Selling Exhibition

In a rare opportunity to view photographs from the historic Beaton archive, Cecil Beaton’s early portraits of Freud stand in first-time dialogue with David Dawson’s images of the artist in later years. Dawson sat for Freud over a period of 20 years, including for the final Portrait of the Hound: his photographs add further dimension to the relationship of sitter and artist.

Highlights from the George Daniels Horological Collection

12 July - 11 August

On 6 November Sotheby’s will hold the sale of the collection of George Daniels, the celebrated horologist. This exhibition is an early taste of the forthcoming auction that includes, not only pieces made by him that he retained for his own pleasure, but also fine and rare examples of both clocks and watches by some of the most famous makers of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.

The Sotheby's Diamonds Collection

12 July - 11 August

The Sotheby’s Diamonds Collection is a true marriage of art and jewellery. Using important diamonds to create unique jewels hand-crafted at one of the few remaining world-class jewellery ateliers. The Collection is available for purchase at the exhibition and through Sotheby’s Diamonds in New York, London and Hong Kong.

  • "Hey'Ya" [Let's Go] - Arab Women in Sport

Photographs by Brigitte Lacombe & Videos by Marian Lacombe

25 July - 11 August

Commissioned by Qatar Museums Authority, this is the first exhibition in London by the internationally renowned photographer Brigitte Lacombe with film-maker Marian Lacombe. The exhibition features a series of images of Arab sportswomen from many different countries, shown alongside videos by Marian Lacombe which situate the images within personal histories and a wider – often unspoken – discourse of gender, culture and sportsmanship.
