Trees in Focus: A Philanthropic Evening with Anne Fontaine

Growing up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazilian-French designer Anne Fontaine was born with a passion for the environment. “When I lived in Amazonia with the [Canela] tribe, I learned how precious the forest is,” Fontaine said to a stylish audience at Trees in Focus, an auction of 32 tree-themed photographs held at Sotheby’s New York on 25 May to benefit the Anne Fontaine Foundation. “It’s our duty to protect this unique asset.” With live Brazilian-inspired jazz by the Tia Jenny Trio's celebrated musicians, guests enjoyed Champagne, freshly squeezed juices and French macarons in pre- and post-sale receptions. Kicking off the live auction, Fontaine and the foundation’s executive director Christine Dutreil spoke about the organization, and Fontaine’s daughter Ella read a poem by Roberto Dutesco – one of the many featured artists in attendance – to accompany his photo in the sale.
