The road trip is a rite of passage and a staple of American literature and movies. Photographers, too, have a love affair with the road, travel and cars. Robert Frank travelled the U.S. by car on a Guggenheim grant in the late 1950s, while Stephen Shore captured much of the same terrain in colour. In New Jersey, George Tice captured the surprising sublimity of a gas station shrouded by night.
