NEW YORK - BOURGOGNE ROUGE: THE PLACE TO START

If you're new to the great Pinot Noir wines of Burgundy, it can be a challenge to know where to start. What's the difference between Chambertin and Gevrey-Chambertin? Why can the same wine come in both white and red? Why are some Premiers Crus more expensive than Grands Crus?

But when it comes to red Burgundy, there's one simple place to start: Bourgogne Rouge. This is usually the entry level wine for most producers and is therefore priced affordably.

Robert Groffier, Bourgogne Rouge, $42.95 - 59.95.

The grapes can come from anywhere in Burgundy, but the best producers use fruit from their already excellent sites. Often they come from young vines which are not yet mature enough to contribute to the more celebrated wines.

NOTABLE PRODUCERS

Our range of Bourgogne Rouge focuses on those made by some of the best growers in the region. Dugat and Cathiard produce structured, rich wines which also show great elegance; Roulot's wines are light and pure; and those of Domaine Roumier are wonderfully aromatic and expressive.

Please see our complete list of Bourgogne Rouge available on the Sotheby's Wine website but do not hesitate to contact Eli or me: Eli.Rodriguez@Sothebys.com or Nicholas.Jackson@Sothebys.com or call +1 212.894.1990 for more information or if we can put together a mixed, sampling case for you.
