Italy has long been a source of inspiration for artists, writers and poets who’ve been drawn there by the dramatic landscape and the alluring Mediterranean light. It was both of these which inspired Joseph Wright of Derby to become a landscape painter after years spent painting portraits, while Edward Lear was so taken with the country’s beauty that he made it his home for many years.
