LONDON –Filmmaker and set designer, Sergei Yutkevich was involved in the Soviet avant-garde film movement from an early age, working with Sergei Eisenstein. He went on to win Best Director at Cannes for Othello in 1956 and again in 1966 for Lenin in Poland. Yutkevich was also a founding member of the Factory of Eccentricity, a creative group that formed in Petrograd in the early 1920s. The exceptional group, totalling nine works in the December Russian Paintings sale in London, date from the late 1910s and early 1920s.
