This is what 40 looks like: Sotheby's is marking four decades of auctions in Asia with a spectacular lineup of early October sales at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre that include the latest in contemporary Asian art, vibrant jewels, esteemed wines, high-tech watches and more. Below, a quick day-by-day lineup of Sotheby's 40th anniversary in Hong Kong sales:

4 OCTOBER
Wine: Highlights include the first offerings in Asia of bottles from Domaine Clarence Dillon, the owner of Chateau Haut-Brion, Bourdeaux First Growth and others, with some 550 lots from 1891 to 2012, estimated at HK$11.4-16.4 million (US$1.5-2.1 million).

5 OCTOBER
Wine: Offerings include two prominent collections. A Magnificent Bourdeaux features 300 lots of top-class Bourdeaux in the best available vintages, with 12 bottles each of Mouton Rothschild 2000 and Margaux 2000 among them, for a total estimate of HK$14-20 million (US$1.8-2.6 million). The Important Burgundy and Bourdeaux from a Private Cellar includes more than 500 lots of Burgundy, Bourdeaux and Champagne, in addition to Italian and Austrian wines, estimated at HK$29-40 million (US$3.7-5.2 million).

Early Ink Masters: Works by early masters of Chinese ink painting who worked abroad in the early 20th century -- Chen Qikuan, Fang Zhaolin and Lu Shoukun among them -- are highlights of the lots that embody the use of traditional and Western techniques.

Sotheby's Hong Kong 40th Anniversary Evening Sale: At this marquis sale, more than 50 modern and contemporary Asian works from such masters as Zao Wou-Ki, Wang Yidong and Luo Zhongli are offered at the highest total estimate ever for a comparable sale in Asia.

20th Century Chinese Art Sale:
 Look for oil on canvas works by respected modern and contemporary painters such as Wu Guanzhong, Chu The-Chun and more.

Contemporary Asian Art Day Sale: Acrylics and oils on canvas by such current artists as Takashi Murakami, Zhang Xiaogang and Jia Aili.

Modern and Contemporary Southeast Asian Paintings: Paintings in oil and canvas by Southeast Asian painters including S. Sudjojono, Lee Man Fong and I Nyoman Masriadi.

Fine Chinese Paintings:
 Traditional ink-and-colour-on-paper works by Zhang Daqian, Lu Yanshao, Hunag Binhong and others.

Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite: Leading this jewellery sale are a 8.03-carat cushion-shaped "pigeon's blood" Burmese ruby on a setting by designer Cindy Chao (estimated at HK$23-30 million, or US$3.5-3.8 million) and a set of two jadeite bead necklaces from the Republican Period (estimated at HK$22-30 million, or US$2.8-3.8 million).

An outstanding set of three qianlong princely soapstone seals with fitted zitan box, from the Fine Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art auction, 8 October.

8 OCTOBER
Fine Chinese Ceramics and Works for Art: 
Offerings include a set of three qianlong princely soapstone seals (HK$80 million, or US$10 million), a dry lacquer head of Buddha (HK$30 million, or US$3.8 million) and a ruyi-handled vast from the Qianlong Period (HK$10-15 million, or US$1.3-1.9 million).

Important Watches: A platinum and diamond-set Patek Philippe (HK$5.5-6.5 million, or US$710,000-840,000) and a Richard Mille watch designed for Rafael Nadal ($HK2.5-3.5 million, or US$323,000-450,000) lead the watch auction, while a Patek Philippe gold, crystal, diamond, emerald and ruby-set clock (HK$2-3 million, or US$260,000-380,000) and a Cartier clock in gold, diamond, emerald, pearl, rock crystal and smoky quartz (HK$1.5-2.5 million, or US$190,000-320,000) are highlights among clocks.

3-7 OCTOBER
Awakening Spring: An Exhibition of Significant Works by Wu Guanzhong:
 During the Hong Kong sales, Sotheby's presents this collection of 40 museum-quality works by the renowned modern Chinese artist Wu Guanzhong, all hailing from a distinguished private collection. Occupying the Low Gallery, the exhibition includes defining works from the height of the artist's career, including the seminal Wisteria (1990).
