LONDON - The Financial Times’s Seasonal Appeal kicked off with an auction of 20 wonderfully varied subjects, each of them beautifully observed and shot, and all by leading photographers of today. Guests who crowded into the Getty Images Gallery just north of Oxford Circus were ready for a tussle, and bidding was wonderfully spirited.

The top price was £4,000 for a montage of twenty-four eyes of racing drivers, titled ‘Eyes on F1’. It was specially created for the event by sports photographer Andrew Hone’s, and tied in neatly with the FT’s selected charity: Sightsavers. By the end of the event £48,000 was raised.
