MONTEREY - Between legendary racecars, jaw-dropping McLarens and a slew of sleek Ferraris, RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction seemingly had everything for the automobile enthusiast. Lasting over nine hours with 129 cars sold, this year’s Monterey sale totaled $172.9 million – topping the company’s 2014 Monterey performance by more than 20 percent. The auction commenced with the Pinnacle Portfolio, an exquisite private collection of 25 post-war sports cars. With $75.4 million in sales, including the top two lots at Monterey, the Pinnacle Portfolio set a new benchmark for a single-day, single-vendor auction.
Producing an abundance of records, Monterey proved the robustness of today’s car market, especially surrounding Ferraris, responsible for seven of the sale’s top ten lots.
