LONDON - High voltage glamour was the order of the night at a special dinner with Fendi for 60 of Sotheby’s top clients at the galleries of New Bond Street on Saturday. On arrival, the mood was buoyant as guests took in stunning Russian art including a collection of works on paper by Natalia Goncharova and Mikhalia Larionov. As waiters proffered Ruinart blanc de blanc champagne and a mouthwatering array of canapes such as beef carpaccio, tuna tartare and langoustines, there was also an opportunity to try on exquisite pieces from the Sotheby’s December Fine Jewels auction, while models stood showcasing the most standout jewels from the sale with key Fendi Spring/Summer 2016 runway looks.

As they moved through, guests found Sotheby’s main galleries transformed into an intimate dining room with impeccably dressed tables featuring breath-taking floral displays of white lilacs and silvery grey foliage by Scarlett and Violet. As guests enjoyed a starter of whipped goats ricotta with zucchini flowers and truffled honey, Chairman of Sotheby’s Russia Mark Poltimore and Fendi’s Worldwide Private Client Relations Director Gabriella di Paterno set the tone with a warm welcoming speech.

Then, for the real treat – the catwalk. Fendi’s prestigious Silver Moon Haute Fourrure Autumn Winter 2015-2016 Collection is a rarely shown tour-de-force and each look represented upwards of 300 hours of meticulous hand craftsmanship. Masterpieces included a degradé cropped jacket where sable morphed into mink and then into leather for a fascinating optical illusion. Then came a glistening silver Russian sable and silk taffeta opera coat and a feathered winged mink cape in the prettiest shades of pale pink, peony and lilac. The piece on everyone’s wish list? A resplendent 3D floral embroidered frock coat encapsulating brown swakara and silvery Russian sable.

As the models made their final exit and guests moved on to the main course of Hereford beef with artichoke puree and roasted pumpkin, the excitement was still palpable. After dinner, the evening continued across the road to Fendi’s flagship New Bond Street boutique with a chance to see yet more fabulous fashion from the Autumn Winter 2015 collection and Spring Summer 2016 Resort collection. In the words of di Paterno, ‘Art and fashion always unite’ – and in the case of this special evening, they did so beautifully.
