At this time of year, Paris becomes the meeting place for drawing fans from across the globe as curators, experts and amateurs gather for Le Salon du Dessin and Drawing Now.

Alongside the events, galleries across the city will be unveiling breathtaking Old Masters alongside Modern and Contemporary drawings and Sotheby’s Paris will be hosting a Bernard Boutet de Monvel collection of more than 200 drawings.

BERNARD BOUTET DE MONVEL, SYLVIE IN HER CRIB. ESTIMATE: €3,000–4,000.

Boutet de Monvel was more than just an artist. He was a master of style and set the tone for the Art Deco era with his keen eye and unrivalled aesthetic sense. He turned beauty into a lifestyle, seeking perfection everywhere from his servants' uniforms to his young daughter's fringe.

BERNARD BOUTET DE MONVEL, ILLUSTRATION PROJECTS FOR HARPER'S BAZAAR ETC. ESTIMATE: €600–1,000.

At the end of April, the Bibliothèque R. & B.L. Dada-Surréalisme auction will feature manuscripts and correspondence by the great names in Dada and Surrealism, including an outstanding unpublished and highly illustrated notebook by Dalí.

SALVADOR DALÍ, AUTOGRAPH NOTEBOOK. ESTIMATE: €40,000–50,000.

Dalí once said, "Drawing is the honesty of art. There is no possibility of cheating. It’s good or bad, that’s it." The notebook contains ink drawings, sketches and thoughts alongside daily expenses.

Last year Sotheby’s achieved more than 23 world auction records for leading comic strip artists from around the globe and the Bande Dessinée auction in May includes work by Winsor McCay, who continues to fascinate illustrators around the world.

WINSOR MCCAY, LITTLE NEMO IN SLUMBERLAND. ESTIMATE: €48,000 – 50,000

Le Salon du Dessin is taking place in Paris from 30th March until 4th April and Drawing Now from 30th March until 3rd April.
