Preface
OMEGA's relationship with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) dates back to 1932 when we became the first company ever to be entrusted with the timekeeping of every sport at an Olympic Games. The evolution of our role can be clearly illustrated: in 1932 we provided 30 chronograph stopwatches which were used to record the results of all the events. This year, our 450 professional timekeepers and data handlers used some 420 tonnes of equipment at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

We share an even longer history with China. When the world's largest railway network was completed there in 1895, the engineers and staff involved in the construction of the 76,000 kilometre railroad were given OMEGA Railmaster timepieces, all synchronized with a single OMEGA clock. This marked the beginning of our 113-year presence in China.

The Beijing 2008, Unique No. 8 Collection is a fitting tribute to OMEGA's recurring role as Official Timekeeper at the Olympic Games and to our long, uninterrupted relationship with China. Its beauty, rarity, and extravagance define it as the ultimate Olympic collector's item.

The 35 classic timepieces in this one-of-a-kind collection are presented in an elegant black walnut case which is reminiscent of a rectangular pagoda and whose intricate design pays homage to traditional Chinese architecture. Popular belief in China holds that the number 8 is fortuitous, so each of the watches bears the limited edition number of 8.

There can only be one such collection, of course, but we at OMEGA are pleased that by offering the Beijing 2008, Unique No. 8 Collection for auction and donating all profits to The Chinese Athletes Educational Foundation (CAEF), we can extend its benefits with maximum effect to a deserving organisation dedicated not only to the support of young athletes but to meeting the needs of youth affected by this year's tragic earthquake.

We thank our OMEGA colleagues around the world for their help in organising this endeavour and also acknowledge everyone who has expressed interest in the Beijing 2008, Unique N° 8 Collection.  Your generous bids in support of this worthy cause are greatly appreciated.

The Chinese Athletes Educational Foundation
The Chinese Athletes Educational Foundation (CAEF) was founded by Olympic and world champion athletes including LI Ning, CAI Zhen Hua, LI Yong Bo, XU Hai Feng, ZHOU Ji Hong, HUANG Yu Bin, ZHANG Rong Fang, XIONG Ni, LI Xiao Shuang and LI chun Yang. CAEF provides training in languages, sports management, business adminstration and more for top Chinese athletes and coaches, including those from Hong Kong, Macua and Taipei, who aim to pursue employment in international sports governing bodies after their athletic careers are finished.

CAEF also sponsors the building of schools and supports continuing education in China's povery-stricken areas. In the past three years, CAEF has cooperated with the "Hope Project" to build over 50 "Chinese Athletes Hope Schools".

The recent earthquake in the southwestern province of Sichuan left many lost, dead and injured. To support youth in the affected areas, CAEF, in cooperation with the local educational department, is developing an "All-weather Playgroun" project for the area. The objective is to help students recover from the psychological stress of the disaster through sports and team activities. CAEF will also organize athletes' visits to the area to take part in sports activities with the students at the playgrounds.
