拍品資料及來源

Vallotton’s landscapes from his maturity differ from those executed at the beginning of the century. Rigorous composition has replaced anecdotal or spontaneous references which characterize, for example, the Nabi period. In this wonderful depiction of the Dordogne, nature becomes a pretext for the expression of a thought or state of mind. Thus, Vallotton combines realistic and stylized elements, characteristics of his most emblematic “paysage composé”, with an original colour palette and intense play of shadows and light. “La Dordogne à Beynac” epitomizes Vallotton’s mastery in his late oeuvre.
