Condition
The following condition report was kindly provided by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.: This work seems to be in good condition. The varnish is quite shiny, but the painting looks well nonetheless. The canvas is lined with a non-wax adhesive, and the surface is stable. Under ultraviolet light, one can see some retouching in the background around the head and in the hair on both sides of the face. There are also retouches in the lower right and in the red fabric next to the spinning wheel. These retouches seem to be rather loosely applied. They address cracking, and perhaps thinness to the dark colors in the left and right of the head. The restoration could be re-examined to lessen the amount of retouching, but the work could be hung in its current state.
