Condition
The colours are fairly accurate in the printed catalogue illustration. There is a thin layer of dust and some minor oxidation marks in the creases. The rear of the base presents a rub mark and a stain close to the numbered inscription. Scratches are located on the base and mainly visible upon close inspection only. This work is in very good condition.

Born in 1941 in Wales, Barry Flanagan is one of the main representatives of the new English sculpture. Noticed in the 1960s for his use of raw materials (fabric, sand, ropes), he turned to bronze in the 70s to give life to an irreverent bestiary of which Thinker on Rock is an emblematic piece. Infused with absurd poetry in the spirit of the pataphysic philosophy defined by Alfred Jarry (father of Ubu) as “the science of imaginary solutions”, the work of Flanagan thus frees “sculpture from the prejudices and constraints of meaning, allowing it to capture authentic experience.”
