Condition

Colour: The colour in the catalogue illustration is fairly accurate. Condition: This work is in very good condition. Extremely close inspection reveals two extremely faint and unobtrusive rubmarks: one above the green spot on the centre of the left hand edge and one to the extreme overturn edge of the top left hand corner tip. Further extremely close inspection reveals a minute media accretion to the top of the red spot on the centre of the left hand edge. No restoration is apparent when examined under ultra-violet light.
"In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective, qualified opinion. Prospective buyers should also refer to any Important Notices regarding this sale, which are printed in the Sale Catalogue.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF BUSINESS PRINTED IN THE SALE CATALOGUE."

"You’ve got colour, pure colour on its own. And then you’ve got the meaning of objects. And with the Spot Paintings, that’s when you take the colour out, and you deal with it separately. You take all the colour out of a situation, ‘cause it’s getting in your way, and you bang it into the Spot Paintings" (Damien Hirst cited in: Damien Hirst, On The Way to Work, London 2001, p. 125).
