拍品資料及來源

In this work Berkeley discusses "electric brains", automatic machines for reasoning and calculating, to the general reader. The first edition appeared in 1959. It was originally sold with an accompanying "Brainiac" kit, comprised of flashlight batteries, six multiple switches, and various nuts and bolts ("no soldering is required; the kit is completely safe..."). Berkeley, who entered the computer field in 1938 as an actuary using punched card machines for Prudential Insurance, established the Association for Computing Machinery in 1947 and later went into business as Edmund C. Berkeley and Associates. In 1951 he started the first ever computer magazine, Computers and Automation.
