Francesco Ingoli, inscription (see below); bought from Libreria Antiquaria Mediolanum, Milan, 1987

The title-page is inscribed “Franc de Ingoli”, apparently Francesco Ingoli (1578-1649), the Italian priest appointed to debate Copernican astronomy with Galileo, with annotations in two later hands "primo Segretario de Propaganda [Fide] Urb. VIII" and "suo autografo".

RARE. We have traced only one other copy at auction. The work is divided into three sections dealing with numbers, measurement, and river engineering. Among the arithmetical chapters is a section on book-keeping.
