THE FIRST EDITION OF THE FIRST BOOK WHOLLY DEVOTED TO ARITHMETIC TO BE PRINTED IN ENGLAND. All editions but the first were printed on the Continent where it was greatly admired. His arithmetic, which was inspired by his need to protect himself in monetary transactions, was based upon Italian models and includes business applications of the day, such as partnership, profit and loss, and exchange. The work is dedicated to Sir Thomas More, Tunstall's friend and admirer.
