拍品資料及來源

FIRST EDITION of this short treatise on the false position method (regula falsi), sometimes attributed to Johannes Widmann. "The rule of false position was an Oriental device which we have now replaced with the equation; it was found in schoolbooks in various countries until the second half of the nineteenth century" (Smith, p.18). This is one of several arithmetical works printed by Landsberg around this time (see also lot 511). ISTC lists 10 copies, including the present one.
