Adriaan Metius, who came from a family well-established in the field of mathematics and surveying, worked for Tycho Brahe at Hven from 1594 but had gone by 1596. As a successful teacher in Franeker of technical subjects, he published a number of works, of which his Praxis nova geometrica describes triangulation. The copies of this work in the Plimpton Collection (New York, Columbia University, Plimp 513 1523 M56) and Graves Collection (University College London, Graves 148.a.20) lack the folding engraved plate. The second (anonymous) work is a thorough account of various aspects of surveying.
