AN UNCUT COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION OF A MAJOR WORK BY LULL. Originally composed in 1308, this treatise contains combinatory tables of the symbolic letters BCDEFGHIKT which are the forerunner of modern computer science (in later editions these were represented in simpler fashion by diagrams with volvelles, as found in the manuscript diagrams at the end of this copy). This copy is one of many lacking the final quire containing the Ars brevis; this was in fact separately printed by Christophorus Arnoldus in c. 1476 and may be considered an independent publication. For a later edition of the Ars generalis ultima, see lot 383.
