拍品資料及來源

“[Miracula Arithmetica] is a book on arithmetic and number mysticism. In studying the biblical number 666, Faulhaber found a three-dimensional analog to the famous theorem of Pythagoras and used this as a numerical example in this publication. In modern notation it is A2 + B2 + C2 = D2. Descartes used this in his own work in 1620 after very likely learning of it while a student at Faulhaber’s institute. The work is replete with 666 examples” (Tomash & Williams).
