the bowl resting on four feet shaped as elephant trunks, the sides decorated with panels of Scottish thistles and Irish shamrocks, with monogram MLM and coat-of-arms with motto Et Dieu Mon Appui, the plates with same pattern, the cup numbered 4878 - 5635 M for Edward C. Moore, 208/5, the plates numbered 4880 5635, with inventory number /3: 130, 140, 141, 145, 146, 147, 150, 151, 153, 157, 158, and 161

Condition

In overall very good condition. The bowl engraved inside with a fine frieze of flowers. Very nice pattern.

The Mackay service, was ordered by John Mackay for his wife Marie-Louise in the 1870's for 24 person, and comprised 1.250 pieces. Mackay sent half ton of silver directly to Tiffany's from his Comstock Lode mines of Virginia-City, Nevada. Charles Carpenter notes in his book on Tiffany silver that this service is the prototype of the really somptuous diner service of the Victorian America
