現駐布魯克林的藝術家兼設計師KAWS(布賴恩·唐納利)是最享負盛譽的當代普普藝術家之一。普普藝術之父安迪·沃荷將平平無奇的金寶湯罐頭及可口可樂瓶圖像,轉化為轟動藝壇的藝術傑作;KAWS秉承前人遺風,以其別具一格的角色人物和卡通標誌象徵大眾商品,將對消費主義文化的崇拜提升至另一層次。 KAWS挪用來自流行文化的角色人物,再以骷髏頭加上交叉骨頭和X形眼睛的標誌性頭像重新塑造,因而著稱;其創作手法出奇制勝,將為人熟悉的事物改造成獨一無二的形象,並透過與設計品牌如Original Fake、Medicom Toy、Supreme、耐克(Nike)和NIGO合作,滲透當代藝術與商業零售兩個領域。

《溜之大吉》(拍品編號134)來自KAWS作於二〇一二年的一系列「tondo」(即圓形)畫作,這一獨特系列以不同剪裁的特寫構圖,呈現其別具代表性的角色。「Tondo」一字源於意大利語「rotondo」(圓形),是代表文藝復興圓形藝術作品的名稱;在歷史上,圓形畫的封閉空間構圖可將觀者的目光聚焦於畫中場景。KAWS顛覆圓形畫的傳統特徵,展現的卡通角色肖像支離破碎,幾乎無法辨認,並活用灼亮鮮豔的著色,均勻地覆蓋每一寸畫面,前景和背景幾乎融為一體,各種色彩鬥麗爭妍,渴求觀者的垂青。本作看似描繪了一個面部特徵被膨脹放大的KAWSBOB──被KAWS以標誌性手法重塑的流行卡通人物海綿寶寶。本作構圖既熟悉又陌生,藉此吸引觀者主動投入其中,重新思索抽象與具象之間的聯繫。
