Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. There is an undulation to the sheet as well as an undulation to the underlying spacer and backing board in the upper right corner. There appears to be a few scattered pinpoint accretions to the vellum, visible upon extremely close inspection. Please note that this work has not been inspected out of its frame. Framed under Plexiglas.

Born in Montreal, Dorothea Rockburne travelled to the United States in the early 1950s to study at Black Mountain College.  Under the guidance of teachers including John Cage and Max Dehn, Rockburne developed a mathematically-based conceptual practice that explored introducing unconventional materials to folded or torn paper.  This body of work is the focus of the long-term exhibition 'Dorothea Rockburne,' currently on view at Dia, Beacon.
